Cheeseburgers In Paradise
5/7/2004

Edna Peters is one of many non-teaching staff at Proctor who are beloved by students. Her title is baker, and her cookies are so popular and famous that we mail them to recent graduates at their colleges, but Edna is many other things: a tough, funny, loving grandmother to hundreds...and a rabid Jimmy Buffett fan. Students came to the dining room for breakfast yesterday to the strains of Cheeseburgers In Paradise and Volcano. Here, Chris serves up a breakfast cheeseburger with fries:

It was Edna who set up beach chairs, beach balls and an umbrella for Matt and Jake's comfort in the dining room.

Most seniors begin Senior Projects Monday, which means that today's classes were the final high school academic classes for many. For a senior English section that has enjoyed itself greatly this year, this calls for celebration: a cookout at their teacher's home, followed by a bonfire (Christmas tree burning).

Indeed, this is a time of transition and acceleration toward the end. This morning in assembly, in the continuation of tradition, six new members were inducted into the Allan Bursaw Chapter of the National Honor Society.

Edna: One of many employees beloved by generations of Proctor students.
Parrots, flamingoes, tropical shirts and leis.
Jake and Westy whip up some yogurt, ice & berry smoothies.
Margaritaville in the kitchen.
In assembly, Matt chides the community for our failure to embrace Jimmy Buffett Day more completely.
Senior year in transition: Brad enjoys a cookout with his Themes In Literature class.
On a sunny deck after dinner, Tony G tries some dance steps with his English teacher.
Two seniors together: senior faculty member Chris Norris, one month from retirement, works with Nora, a senior inducted today into the National Honor Society.
