Boys varsity ice hockey defeated a tough squad from Kents Hill School yesterday at Phillips Exeter in the first game of the New England Division 2 championship tournament. Coach Mike Walsh has written some colorful remarks, which I'll quote here.

"In their quarterfinal playoff match, the boys varsity hockey team defeated Kents Hill School on Wednesday by the score of 6-2. In a game that was much closer than the score indicated, Proctor overcame a serious threat from the boys from the great state of Maine and cashed in when the opportunities came their way. Nate Robie got this party started when he one timed a beautiful feed from Tom Breslin with a Kent’s Hill player in the sin bin.

Next was when Josh Robertson, drawing more attention than a streaker at halftime, fought through the coverage and connected to extend the Hornet lead to 2-0.

Breslin started the second frame by jumping into the rush and sending a twisted wrister by a stunned Husky keeper.

Kent’s Hill closed the gap to 3-1, converting a Proctor neutral zone miscue and ensuing two on one rush, but the Green Bees stung back quickly with Breslin and Brendan Welch providing the poison. The Hornets tickled the twine again early in the third when Ian Flanagan toe dragged the Kent’s Hill D and went five hole with a quick release wrister to put the final nail in the coffin.

Kevin Robar came up huge today between the pipes for the Proctor squad, making several key saves early when this one could have gone either way. All in all a solid effort from the boys in green, as they move one step closer to the cup. The semifinal match will be on Saturday when they travel to the Ice Center in Salem, NH to take on So. Kent School. Game time is 11:00 AM."
