To Be Loved by You
2/22/2004

Yesterday's page teed-up the dedication of the Ruby and Bill Wise Community Center; today's reports on the lovefest, I mean event. This facility is really Bill's dedication to his late wife, and the proceedings were flooded with emotion.

Steve's reflections on both Ruby's humor and Bill's delight in her wit had many of us wiping tears. Our talented a capella group assembled under the projection screen and absolutely nailed a tight rendition of How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You as--by coincidence--the slideshow projected Bill's youthful countenance above.

Charlie Carpenter led the jazz band through two numbers...

with so much swing and groove that the audience lept to its feet.

This celebration brought together dozens of this school's greatest friends, admirers and supporters. We came together...students...staff...teachers...alumni...trustees and benefactors, and shared an hour of dedication to Ruby and Bill, a facility and a community.

Steve Wilkins greets Bill Wise '39.
Board Chair Carl Oppenheim welcomed us and credited the individuals who drove the project: trustee Geoff Morris, Steve Wilkins, architect Greg Hemberger and a representative of the construction company.
Steve referenced yesterday's Corner and honored Bill for his dedication.

A man of few words now, Bill stills knows how to laugh.
