School life is truly cyclical. We start the year in late summer, experience the glory of autumn in New England, ski and skate through winter's cold snows, endure mud season with the taste of maple, and finish in a riot of lilac and apple blossoms. All of this has me thinking of cycles, circles and things that go round and round.
New students and their families made circles Tuesday.
Weather permitting, we've repeated this ritual every registration day since 1971!
The arrival of new students presents human cycles, too, as alumni I knew as students bring their children to begin the Proctor experience. In fact, twenty-four current students are the children of Proctor alumni! What does that tell us?
Chris Hadley '81 brought Charlotte '15; his classmate Dave Tillotson came with Derek '16; David Kittell's '53 grandson Miles '16--whose aunt and uncle are Chelsea Kittell '90 and Lans Taylor '89--is on Orientation today. Kay (Beyer) Child's '85 son Drew is here. Below, right, Phil Pastan '84 prepares for the lap sit with son Max '16.
For the forty-second consecutive year, we are orienting new students to Proctor not as a place, but as a set of supportive relationships, hiking and camping in the White Mountains.
Back on campus, spheres go round and round, as sports camps are underway.
Circles completed!
