In response to the school's escalating commitment to its ski area, we host a public, annual celebration featuring free skiing, great food and a torchlight parade. We held the seventh annual bash Saturday night.
Temperatures in the low teens and eighteen inches of fresh, dry powder guaranteed great skiing, but the storm also limited attendance by alumni, trustees and others who would have to travel. No matter. Buses shuttled hundreds of students across the valley, and more townspeople enjoyed the event than in previous years.
Most arrived without skis or snowboards. This was simply the place to be.
Parent volunteers prepared and served up pulled pork sandwiches, corn chowder, beef stew and chili in Yarrow's Lodge.
And in a large tent on the south deck, a buffet offered sausage subs, burgers and hot dogs.
A little after eight, the torchlight parade snaked its way down the Burden Trail.
The Proctor Ski Area Celebration has quickly become an established tradition. Thanks, again to all of the parents who dedicate time and energy to make it such a success!
