I usually have no idea what the next Corner will be about, but I do today. This weekend, I'll write a story about one of the great events in Proctor history: Friday night's celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Farrell Field Complex. Grills will be cooking up barbecue from 5:00-7:00 PM, and the crowd will huddle at 5:30 at a plaque dedication at the rock positioned at the conjunction of the three fields, immediately behind the softball diamond's home plate.
I say "crowd" because we've invited everyone in the database. That's the better part of six thousand souls. Townspeople are also invited. The celebration is ostensibly about the successful completion of a $1,900,000 capital project, but it's really much more. It is a celebration of an ambitious capital campaign entitled "Building Proctor's Future, Today" which has already raised more than $8,000,000 (not counting estate gifts of $1,250,000).
The campaign has already funded improvements to Proctor Ski Area, the construction of a six locker room athletic facility and the Farrell Field Complex. In addition, gifts have been made toward the construction of a new dormitory to the east of Mary Lowell Stone House, a new dining facility, endowment, and a variety of campus "gateway" improvements.
Friday's gala event will be attended by the whole community, alumni (senior alumni are here for reunion,) trustees, parents, past parents and friends. It celebrates more than the installation of three new fields. It celebrates the remarkable momentum of the entire community.
Girls varsity soccer will play KUA under the lights at 6:00 PM. Join us for an evening celebrating Proctor!
