This edition is a reflection on a weekend. The tension on the bench of the boys' varsity soccer team during their tie with Tilton is suggested below:

Ryan was hurt playing soccer. So (earlier) was his roommate. They're both on crutches on the second floor of MLS. Ryan's ankle (lower right) is sprained. We won't know why John's leg and ankle are discolored (not shown) until he gets diagnosed tomorrow.

Drew Donaldson '92 stood in front of the whole school Friday and said, "I see a lot of mountain bikes on campus, but they look too clean." This was an invitation to a mud-seeking tour of Proctor's finest remote sites: Mountain Classroom, The Cabin, Mud Pond, etc. Here's Drew and senior Matt on the Bulkhead Road Sunday after brunch:

They found some mud.

The 17th century Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer's fascinating and enigmatic portrait Girl With a Pearl Earring was the inspiration for the Tracy Chevalier novel of the same name, which fostered a stunning film--of the same name--which will be released soon. It was shown at Dartmouth this weekend as part of that college's fortuitous relationship with Colorado's Telluride Film Festival. The film, starring the brooding Colin Firth (whose fan club is headed, I believe, by my octagenarian mother) is, itself, a masterpiece.
