One hundred and nine aspiring athletes have been on campus since Thursday morning training and conditioning for the football, field hockey, cross country and soccer seasons. Each team has a distinct personality, and girls' soccer set the bar for competitiveness today by playing in a jamboree at Berwick.

Field hockey, too, seems a bit intense, as demonstrated in the lower right photo of Emilie biting a hole in a ball.

It's hard to articulate how differently boys' teams approach the season. These football players asked to be photographed for GQ magazine:

I told these soccer players that I would digitally enhance their bicepts using Adobe Photoshop, but in reality, technology has limitations, too....

The athletic trainer's office is a busy place. Perry threatens to tape Christine's mouth.
Joe emerged with some happy tape.
Hmmmm.... Maybe we should ice it.
The day's most serious injury came before practice started, when an assistant football coach rolled his ankle in a turf hole dug by a faculty dog.
Slade enjoyed running around his younger brother in a punt return drill.
Both boys' soccer and football teams are described as "small, not a lot of experience, good spirit, great attitude."
Anthony sneeks a peek at coach Dave Fleming's planbook.
Intensity! Emilie takes a chunk out of a field hockey ball.
