Mid Summer Dreams
7/28/2008
Mid summer is upon us, and our campus quiet--with a few exceptions.

One difference this summer is the frequency of heavy rainstorms, which leaves lawns and playing fields green and healthy.

Despite the lack of student presence, there is plenty of activity. As the installation of a highly efficient biomass furnace nears, preparations are underway to extend steamlines to the Learning Center and the fieldhouse.

The volleyball court immediately west of Carr House has been torn up, as a new and improved septic pump system is installed.

Construction of Peabody House is winding down on schedule! It is a remarkable dormitory, with six, 500-foot wells providing geothermal heating and cooling. It sets a new standard for the use of recycled building materials, and has a cupola with automated windows that open to vent excess heat.

The sixteen students who move in to Peabody House will not believe the spacious rooms and common areas, and the expansive hardwood floors (recycled from Plymouth State's basketball gymnasium.) This commons room pictured below has fixed benches under sunny windows with south facing views of the Blackwater River Valley.

I'd like to invite students to send me JPG images of their summer activities for inclusion in a future Corner. In the meantime, enjoy your final month of vacation!
