Reunion 2008
6/8/2008

Reunion 2008 was the best in memory, despite oppressive heat Saturday. A larger-than-expected crowd of alumni (some traveling great distances) descended on campus for a day of fun and reconnection.

At the registration desk, you pick up a bag of Edna's chocolate chip cookies and a Proctor cap.

Proctor reunions are remarkable for their lack of program. Sure, a couple of thematic campus tours are offered (to arts facilities and to newer facilities,) and a photo reception precedes dinner and a dance party, but most of the day is open for some grilled food, a frisbee game (not this year) and swimming at Elbow Pond. Here's Patrice leading the arts tour through Slocumb Hall, which is slated for renovation.

With the temperature hitting 90, cool, spring-fed Elbow Pond drew a big crowd.

Reconnecting with adults whom you knew as teenagers is a fascinating and rewarding experience! The way in which we all grow, mature and, yes, age is revealed dramatically. The love, affection and gratitude expressed by former students is impressive. Many alumni volunteered the same sentiments: "This place saved me!" or "Proctor let me become the person I am."

Also cool to witness are the friendships forged by people who never knew each other, but who know that they share something profound and powerful.

At a late afternoon reception, alumni mingle with teachers who made a difference long ago, and pose for class photos.

The Class of 1998 was back in force.

Over the years, literally hundreds of Proctor students have studied at the school's program in Spain, and the presence of our beloved native Spanish teachers--Maria Jose and Rosa--was a surprise treat for many alumni!

For everyone involved, Alumni Reunions are powerful emotional experiences, and for faculty they can be most rewarding. We are grateful to all who returned to make Reunion 2008 such a success.
