The final weekend of a trimester is a "campus weekend," meaning that boarding students are all here. A very full slate of activities is offered. Underneath the typical student's radar are trustee meetings in the chapel.
On Friday evening, the dance team performed; a bonfire pep rally burned on Emmons field, and the student rock band opened for the faculty rock 'n roll band. On Saturday, parent volunteers scooped ice cream for make-your-own sundaes in the Wise Center. Outside, a team of students completed a surveying project, while--in the background--you see the Holderness football team marching to Leonard Field.
Just up the hill, at the Morton House site, a small crowd shivers while waiting for trustee meetings to break. Finally, the gathering swells, speeches are delivered, spades are distributed and the ceremony marking the start of construction of Peabody House is enacted.
The throng posed for this photo.
Moments later, it's gametime at one of New England's oldest football rivalries.
A crowd numbering in the hundreds enjoyed a thrilling contest.
They also enjoyed cheeseburgers and bratwurst from a grill which covered the field with greasy, blue smoke.
At far left, below, Taylor Beasley has lots of protection and time to throw deep into the end zone for the game's first touchdown.
And here, in the second quarter, he throws left to Greg Duperey.
The Hornets held off a last-minute charge by the Bulls to earn a 35-26 victory!
On Saturday evening, trustees and friends of Proctor gathered for a celebratory dinner at the Lake Sunapee Country Club, honoring Bill and Betsy Peabody as out-going co-Chairs of the Board of Trustees. Below, Mike Henriques presents them with a copy of the plaque dedicating the new dormitory in their name.
