The last Corner poked fun at computer (mis)use from the perspective of unwary visitors. Indeed, campus is now crawling with tours. This is good, because--with maples turning and temperatures approaching 80--the school will never look better. Today's photos all come from a two-hour campus tour on Friday.
I spoke at a conference recently, at which new admission personnel shared strategies to maximize the seductive qualities of prospective families' visits. I suspect that these families find Proctor to be relatively natural in its presentation, with open-forum assemblies (featuring spontaneous dance contests!) and a kind of what-you-see is what-you-get exposure. Below, student leaders report to the community on a policy change negotiated with faculty that allows clean sweatpants and athletic shorts on Saturday mornings.
After assembly, students buy raffle tickets for the chance to throw pies at faculty volunteers over Family Weekend.
On with our campus tour. Matt takes a family through Lovejoy Library.
The library is full. A world history class is researching individual topics for major papers.
Students in freshman science are identifying mineral types with straight forward experimentation.
The ceramics studio, too, is full. New to Proctor, Christopher is already an accomplished artist.
Everywhere, it seems, students are utilizing wireless technology. Here we see Spanish and biology work outside the community center.
