Every summer, this page advances the study of scientists as types--documenting that cellular microbiologists live, dress and behave differently than, say, physical metallurgists. I do this because we have a new group of Gordon Research Conferees every week, so you'd have to try not to notice the obvious. This week, we host 140 Developmental Biologists. These genial characters overdress for the heat, suck down huge quantities of hot, caffeinated beverages, and attract black flies like sugar. Below, a few circle a picnic table before alighting:

Loyal to a fault, Proctor combats alumni unemployment by hiring a slew of graduates. Some, Everett Jones '57, Garry George '78, Sarah Rowe McIntyre '90, Gregor Makechnie '90, Diane Fowler '80, Alex Estin '83, Chris Bartlett '86, Jen Hill Spear '88, Keith Barrett '80, Greg Samaha '71 and Andrew Donaldson '92 are year-round. Other young alumns swell the ranks of Maintenance and GRC staff during the summer. Below, Ian Gill '01 drives the Deere.

Even more alumni are scattered in the area. Here's a group at the summit of Mt. Washington on Sunday.

From left: Justus Zimmerman '02, Eddie Barkowski '99, their buddy Bick and Andrew Will '00.

Gilly's back left side as he lays waste to a viburnum near The Stairs to Nowhere.
When he's not working for Buildings & Grounds, Ian plays center field for a successful softball team called the Sunapee Beer Batters.
Sarah Wood '03 tends an overgrown area.
Michelle Shaver '01 was in charge of this project.
Andrew nears the summit of Jefferson.
Eddie's promoters want you to believe he's scampering up a vertical face on a free climb.
Careful analysis of the horizon from the uncorrupted original exposes the fraud.
