New students returned from Wilderness Orientation Sunday morning in light rain, telling stories of adventure, fun, heat and recent rain.

Lunch on the trail:

Four days of hiking and camping together seems to work well to bring kids together into relationships that last. Alumni at reunions speak of friendships forged through joys and hardships that came in rain, drought and even snow on Orientation .

This morning, buses and minibuses returned to campus from The Whites, bearing kids--some of them rain-soaked--all of them craving hot showers.

As soon as you get off the bus, you have to unpack and return everything from parachute cord and iodine to peanut butter and gasoline. Ben found cheese his group had been craving for two days.....

Following a group huddle, handshakes and hugs, it's off to dorms for those showers and an afternoon program of on-campus orientation.

First classes meet Monday!

A bus with steamy windows rolls in at 11:00 AM.
Drew is welcomed by Sue.
Climbing off a bus with a backpack can be a challenge.
Day students are to shower and get into clean clothes for the afternoon program.
Everything gets sorted for use on future camping trips and Proctor Mountaineering expeditions.
Issues of honor have to be taught. They always needed to be taught. From my life experience, students never new exactly what was right until they acted on their values. Even then....
When you are offered information (access to an exam) that you shouldn't have, how do you respond? (Ultimately your answer is your own. In other words, you define your ethical world.)
