Spring is in bloom in Andover. Robins, cardinals and cedar waxwings perch in budding apple and pear trees.
Soon, they will be tending their young, feeding them...encouraging them to step out and fly on their own.
By the pond, as the cool of evening descends, wood frogs sing bass, calling out to potential partners; soprano peepers respond in tempo.
Sprawling forsythia radiate, while daffodils nod their heads approvingly.
Young red maples provide the fires of spring as they bud and bloom.
Suddenly, it is time to move on.... to the other side of the mountain, perhaps.
When an affiliate of Utah-based Pacific Group acquired Ragged Mountain Ski Area recently, our rental of the lodge was not communicated to the new firm. In a fine gesture of good will and friendship, the affiliate gave us the night without charge. In the words of spokesperson Jonathan Slager, printed in a Manchester Union Leader article, "We thought we would give the kids a graduation present, so the entire prom will be free of charge to Proctor Academy."
You can almost feel the love!
