JV Heroics

In February, 2005, I wrote a page entitled Junior Varsities extolling the virtues of sport for fun. Having spent my high school career experiencing sub-varsity athletics first-hand, I consider myself well qualified to speak on this matter. J.V. squads had a great day yesterday. The boys' lax team, which is actually rich in athleticism, bested Kimball Union 5-3, with Buckman chipping in a tally.

Over on Carr Field, J.V. girls topped KUA 8-7. Eliza scored.

The game drew a crowd.

When junior varsity baseball fell behind KU by ten runs in the first inning, the afternoon on Farrell Field looked grim. But they settled down. Keegan fires:

Then they put together some runs.

In the sixth inning, they scored thirteen times. Harris hits.

Down entering the final frame, they had men on first and third with one out, when Al launched a shot over the right fielder's head for an improbable, 23-22 victory!

The team celebrated the winning run at the dish while Al (far left) received kudos from Keegan.

Go, J.V. sports!

After wishing her dad happy birthday, Amanda won for J.V. tennis.
Kenny wins a tie-breaker for J.V. boys.
Before girls' lax, you line up for a stick-and-mouthguard check.
The only problem is that the J.V. girls team is carrying thirty-something players, so you have to be patient....
Everything must be documented.
This doesn't qualify as J.V.
Celebrating the 23rd run.
Suddenly, heroes become groundskeepers.
