The boys' hockey team's accomplishment this winter was remarkable--in part--because they won their last eight games in a row on the road. The team captains point out that they derived strength from the knowledge that no school they played had better fans....better school spirit...than Proctor. When it was all over, and they had won the New England Championship, they skated the cup over to the dozens of students who had come to Salem, NH while on vacation, to make more noise than any other school's fans.
I wonder if we take school spirit for granted at Proctor, because we're used to spending so much time together as a whole community in assemblies. We forget that not every school takes the time to laugh together so much...to let the community experience itself so intensely. Below, the players salute Proctor fans during the award ceremony.
Families visiting Proctor pick up on the difference quickly. After many tours, I heard the same thing: "There's something different about the way people relate with one another here...."
