Proctor boys' ice hockey team won the New England Division 2 championship for the first time in history today with a powerful 4-1 victory over a talented, very well coached squad from St. George's School. Mike Walsh's system places a firm body on every opponent near the puck, and isolates on offense with precision. With Proctor ahead 2-1 at mid-game, this twine tickler by Phil Nazair was immense:
A throng of Proctor fans, including dozens of students and faculty on vacation, parents, alumni (and their parents!) and friends took control of Salem's Icecenter with very best school spirit and turned on the pride. When it was over, the team skated the cup over to fans who simply went beserk.
For coaches Mike Walsh, Ian Hamlet and these boys--many of whom have seen this thing grow for three years--nothing could be sweeter than this accomplishment.
Something about the dedication of the Teddy Maloney Rink made this a special winter for athletics at Proctor. The rink isn't going away, so let's keep it coming!
