In this morning's assembly, John Pendleton observed that the first products of our (fall term) Beginner Tennis program are now playing--and winning--at the varsity level. This demonstrates the significance of lower level teams to the development whole athletic programs. Junior varsity baseball is remarkable because only eleven boys are on the squad. Here's the scene in the dugout.
This means a couple of things. The good news is that everyone gets to play, and play a lot. The bad news is that the bullpen is comprised of position players! Here's Josh firing against Cardigan Mountain yesterday:
Girls junior varsity lacrosse has the opposite problem. With 29 girls dressing for the game, it can be tough to give everyone equal playing time. Several other school's JV squads are so small that they bring a handful of girls from their varsity team down to play our JV.
Subsituting freely, Proctor's JV runs and runs.... and wins. Here's Blair cutting directly to the goal.
JV boys lacrosse is huge, with 30 players dressing. With 8 defenders, 8 attack and 4 lines of middies, they'll be a strong Lakes Region squad.
Big teams; small teams... Alex keeps his mind focused on the big picture....
