In 1891, Professor James Francis Morton became "principal" of Proctor Academy. Able to speak and write in seven languages, he was a great admirer of Shakespeare and Milton. Striking a commanding pose, he is pictured wearing flowing robes, and sporting a scythe.
A history of the school records his greatest legacy: "He built Morton House himself, first clearing the land and then constructing the building stick by stick. He cleared a network of trails and pathways in the woods behind his house and spent many hours walking and meditating there. Squirrels and birds came at his call, staying near to feast on the crumbs and seeds he always kept in his pockets." Dr. Morton is long gone. Morton House is a boys dormitory that may also house some descendants of his squirrels. The boys of Morton have been documenting their lives in recent days. These are their images. Here's Jake behind a bottle of Dr. Pepper.
Craig obviously is singing the blues:
Professor Morton's birds and squirrels feasted on crumbs and seeds; Duncan prefers peas.
The third floor of Morton is a special place on campus. Here, after lunch, Nick and Grant focus not on Shakespeare and Milton, but on a computer game.
