School Spirit
11/7/2005

There was a time when we manufactured school spirit with all-school cheers in assembly, bonfire pep rallies and dorm competitions. Today, school spirit is organic, spontaneous, but just as real and effective. During half time in their game Saturday, our highly successful girls' varsity soccer team scrambled up to the field hockey field to cheer that team....

...and was rewarded as varsity field hockey scored the winning goal.

After their victory, the field hockey team lost no time in returning the favor for the soccer team:

Meanwhile, the Carr House boys dragged comfy chairs and a grill across Route 11 to support junior varsity girls' soccer in their 1-0 win over Berwick:

Two spectator buses traveled to Holderness School Sunday to cheer on varsity football, and the impact of this noisy crowd was obvious to everyone. On the second play from scrimmage, Jerome took the ball, danced through the line, made a move that caused two defenders to sit down, and rambled seventy yards for the score. Here's the bench:

A few minutes later, after an interception, he broke free to set up a second touchdown.

The spirit demonstrated by the green crowd made a big difference Sunday, and Jerome thanked spectators in Monday's assembly.

Third soccer benefitted from crowd support Saturday.
Jerome sprinted away from all defenders to score the first TD alone. The team rushed for 336 yards.
The spirit demonstrated by Proctor fans made this feel like a home game.
Of course, it helped that Brenda set up the grill we've come to expect at home games!
Tommy pitches back on a sweep option that netted a first down.
Scoring with 13 seconds in the half, Proctor went up 21-0 on route to a 33-12 final.
