Alumni should be forgiven if--wandering onto campus for the first time in a while--they misread the situation completely. If that visit came on a Friday, they might be heard lamenting, "Oh, no...not this...the new Head of School has changed the dress code...." These are ninth graders:

No, Proctor's simple "neat & clean" dress code hasn't changed, and there is no interest anywhere to change it. What has happened is this: when you have an informal dress code, students want to dress up, and they've chosen Fridays as the time to do it (although sports teams often dress up on game days). Our visiting alumni might encounter dozens of students and teachers yielding to the pressure (expressed in assemblies) to sport formal attire in classes and beyond....like Alex, shown heading back to his dorm after lunch:

On closer inspection, however, one sees the majority still maintaining a casual mode. Like Kenz and Geordie, shown here observing pea sprouts as part of a cell theory lab in biology:

Or, witness these enterprising lads involved in a hunt for wildlife in the relatively fetid Proctor Pond:

Head of School Mike Henriques, espousing the virtues of local, old-strain apples. Observe casual attire (he did dress up Friday).
Duncan and Will on Will's 15th birthday.
Alan McIntyre (wearing a tie) leads a discussion of cell classifications.
Alex is almost preppy in his white cable-knit tennis sweater and tie.
Ben is one of those whose assembly announcements intimidate us to dress up.
So does Evan, who is really setting a standard here.
Padriac, with plaid shirt, tie and Balmoral cap.
The ceramics department sold $530 worth of student pottery to support the American Red Cross/Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.
Nick (sporting neo-military fashion) purchased a piece made by Mike (right).
Jamie, dapper in his red, white & blue with feather cap, warned us in assembly, "Dress up, or bad things will happen."
