Vacancy
11/23/2004

The noun "vacation" is cousin to the verb "vacate," implying emptying and freeing. Vacant is a good adjective to describe this village campus, so recently a swarming hive of activity. Where--only days ago--300 adolescents and 70 adults worked and frolicked...

...a distinct sense of void exists.

Walkways and gathering places feel haunted by the throng so recently here.

The transition from an intense, close boarding school to a vacuous village was fast but not easy.

There were good-byes to be exchanged. Can students imagine what it's like here, now?

Gathering places feel haunted.
A few days ago, we were crunching final exams.
Working so hard!
Suddenly, farewells were exchanged.
See you in ten days!
Heartfelt good-byes.
Don't miss the bus!
Suddenly, they were gone....
Can students know what it's like here now?
