No where has the importance of leadership been better demonstrated than at this school. In 1971, David Fowler stepped up from the faculty to provide 23 years of revolutionary vision as Head of a school that had been struggling. In 1994, a consultant named Gregory Floyd managed a search process to identify David's successor, Steve Wilkins. The success of Steve's tenure is obvious to anyone who knows anything about Proctor. This weekend, a Search Committee comprised of four faculty and seven trustees chose Gregory Floyd and associates to again guide the search process. (The Committee also includes student School Leader Jake Mazonson '05.) Given Gregory's previous experience with us, we know that this process will include a tremendous amount of input from constituents as we assess candidates.
The Chair of the search Committee is trustee Anne Stephens. The Director of the Mountain School for eight years, Anne connected with Proctor after Steve Wilkins served on the NEASC visiting team for the Mountain School's reaccreditation.
David Pilla came to Proctor in 1980. Woodlands Manager, Ocean Classroom Director and Science Department teacher, he embodies the school's environmental and experiential value systems.
Patty Pond shares Dave's commitment to Proctor's leadership in experiential education. A math teacher here since 1987, Patty is Director of the nation's leading wilderness adventure/ college preparatory program--Mountain Classroom.
Ross Young came to Proctor from Avon Old Farms School (CT) in 2002. A teacher of Spanish, Ross coaches cross country running, and nordic skiing. Ross's wife Alejandra also teaches in the World Language Department.
Kristin Nesbitt has been a Learning Skills specialist since 1996, and has also served as a college counselor and teacher of Proctor's innovative sophomore-level health & wellness course, "Choices".
