The effect of dramatic production is most intense for adolescents. Here, at a moment in life when we experiment with roles, behaviors and values, the experience of purposefully assuming a theatric character is liberating and powerful. If one can do this on stage, what keeps us from choosing freely in real life? This spring's musical production of Fiddler On the Roof was over-the-top.
Getting back to my rant: the therapeutic effect of acting is not limited to those on stage; the experience of seeing your "cool" friends dropping guises to assume convincing roles is profound for audience members, too.
The choreography, singing and acting by this huge cast set a new standard for Proctor theater. Congratulations to Director Michael Littman, Assistant Director Terry Stoecker, Voice Director Kirstina Rasmussen and Dance Director Julie Larsen!
