Evening of Dedication
4/8/2002

People with any connection to Proctor should feel great pride in the school following Saturday evening's historic reception at the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club. Our trustees privately funded and hosted an event that brought more than 350 friends of Proctor and friends of Teddy Maloney '88 together with one purpose: to build a hockey rink in his memory. As Board Chair Carl Oppenheim stated in his welcoming address, "We are here to do something that is right". It was an evening of great emotion, love, pride and tears.

Dozens of alumni attended--some from the local area, some from hundreds or thousands of miles--to connect with one another, and with faculty. Below, from left, Susan Eslick, trustee George Dow, Tom Eslick, Pam Dow.

Our beloved baker, Edna Peters--who once served as a surrogate grandmother to Teddy (and many others!)--brought more than 1000 chocolate chip cookies...baked on her own time...which she distributed to folks as they departed, wearing her newly-presented cook's jacket embroidered with "Edna's Cookies."

Anyone interested in participating in the campaign to build the Teddy Maloney Rink should call 603-735-6267.

Board Chair Carl Oppenheim: "In a world that oftens seems irrational, what we are doing makes so much sense..."
Head Steve Wilkins: "We believe that when two people come together, they can change the world...."
Teddy's dad, Eddie Maloney: "Our family is so honored...."
Rhys Brooks '88, who helped organize the event from San Francisco, spoke lovingly of his best friend.
As did Trask Pfeifle '89.
Mark Maloney '90 read a letter of advice from his big brother; "...a letter I read to myself every night."

When Don Emerson was Teddy's lacrosse coach at New England College, Teddy babysat for Jack, who went on to be another goalie for Proctor hockey!

Trustees Jeff Milne and Campaign Chair Mark Cangiano.
Lisa (Giampaolo)'87 Savage and husband Jay '88.
John Hurkala '90 and Derek Beard '90. John, who was caught in the WTC duststorm on 9-11, took 5 1/2 hours to walk to his uptown apartment that awful day. He and Shana Gilmartin '90 will be married in August!
