Auditoria here and there.
We outgrew Holland Auditorium in the late 1970's. The Cary House fire (4/77) eliminated the problem of an undersized dining room, and we were able to grow from about 260 to whatever we are now. Today, Holland's a disaster not only inside but out.
Here, in addition to meeting Mr. Derrick Harris, we see the mess created by the pipe trench that will continue up to the new cistern behind Johnson House.
As girders rise above the foundation, the shape of the Meeting House is revealed. Here, looking southeast from North Street, you can see the rise of the new 417-seat Norris Family Theater.
Designed to retain the intimacy of Holland, the new auditorium is wider but not deeper. Am I making sense?
