Studies in contrast
2/21/2002

Our beloved baker Edna Peters appeared grumpier than usual at breakfast when one sleepy-eyed student after another stumbled by ripe grapefruit halves. Conceiving a simple marketing study she penned a sign declaring "fresh cut grapefruit: good for you!" The results were staggering, as a run on grapefruit sent her back to the kitchen for more.

And speaking of marketing, at 11:38 Wednesday morning we launched this new website. It's not just the newest school site in the nation; it has already been declared "...the best anywhere" (by me). Heck, our old site broke all school records, with more than 5,000,000 hits last year (more than 14,300 daily). Of course we don't care about hits; it's active sessions that count (we've been averaging 600 per day.) Now watch the stats take off!

The new Meeting House has two theaters: the Norris Family Theater and a drama "black box." Each of these venues is occupied by a student-directed production this term, offering a study in contrast. On the main stage, the powerful, gut-wrenching The Laramie Project opened last night, portraying the Matthew Shepard story.

Meanwhile, the black box opens tonight for David Ives's lighthearted Three Plays and a Couch.

Sense the difference?

Just how fresh cut is the grapefruit? Mine had been open for about 20 minutes.
This magazine so doesn't get it!
