Years ago, writing the text for our (expensive) advertisement in Bunting & Lyons Blue Book, I deviously referred to our skating facility as "Methven Rink" in honor of then-coach Karl Methven, who is now Dean of Faculty. The ad continues to propagate this ruse today. Well, on Saturday boys varsity hockey played its last-ever contest in "Methven Rink" in a 6-2 victory over Hoosac School (NY).
The win moved the boys bladesmiths (a Methven term) to 17 wins, 8 losses and 1 tie overall...the best record since....whenever. Trask Pfeifle '89 and Mark Maloney took in a recent game against Brunswick School (CT). The rink we are building this spring and summer will be named for Mark's brother, Teddy (see December 4 Chuck's Corner from Archives).
At a recent trustee committee meeting discussing the rink project (among other things), Director of Development Jay Goulart set the tone with this mechanical action figure of The Godfather of Soul.
You press a button and he sings "I Feel Good."
Save the date: April 6 there will be a gala fundraiser for the Teddy Maloney Rink at the Greenwich CT Boys and Girls Club. Invitations will be mailed to 5800 on our database first week of March.
