It is rare for schools to create entirely new professional positions (jobs) and it is much rarer for Proctor to create a senior-level administrative position. Today we advertise the new position of Director of Advancement!
Creating this position is a bold move by the Board of Trustees. Enrollment is very strong; annual giving is the strongest ever seen at this date, and the capital campaign is doing everything I documented in my previous post.
From this position of strength, the Board envisions the opportunity to coordinate all communications and marketing under a single umbrella with an experienced fund raiser who can complement Keith Barrett, who will assume the position of Major Gifts Officer, following a hugely successful career as Director of Development, a position that will no longer exist by that name.
The person who lands this job will be fortunate to join an intensely community-based school, a school that has lots of momentum.
Yet Proctor is a curious community for a professional to join from outside. We have a uniquely horizontal social structure that extends from the student population through the faculty and administration. A traditionalist who thinks of top-down management might be surprised by the team concept that has distinguished this community over 42 years.
By the time finalists complete visit/interviews, they will know that everyone is facing in the same direction here. It's all about student success.
We are very excited by the prospect of a new position filled by someone who will continue to propel this school toward a prosperous future. Anyone with interest in exploring candidacy for this position should check out this
