When her murder mystery
The Mousetrap opened in London's West End in 1952, Agatha Christie predicted that it would run for eight months. This past November, it played for the 25,000th time at St. Martin's Theater, by far the longest continuous run in history. The show plays Friday and Saturday evening at 7:00 PM in the Norris Family Theater.
The show is under the direction of Lilli Gensler '13 and Colby Rymes '13. Below, the cast and crew ham it up before dress rehearsal.
One reason for the show's extraordinary success is an unconventional twist ending, but long before that surprise is revealed, you're treated to an intriguing, often hilarious set of strange characters and distrustful relationships. A young couple--the Ralstons--have opened a guest house. Their guests arrive in a raging snowstorm that promises to strand them together.
A murder has taken place, and we come to understand that the murderer is present here in Monkswell Manor. But whodunnit? Each guest brings quirky, mysterious traits.
The arrival of a policeman (on skis) only exacerbates tensions, and then the whiny Mrs. Boyle is murdered in the parlor! The murderer is here!
At the London productions of
The Mousetrap, audiences are instructed to keep secret the surprise ending. You'll love this show! Congratulations to Lilli, Colby, cast and crew!
