Weekend Reflections
10/16/2000

I got to get me one of these:

It's a Dodge Caravan covered with CDs and plastic figurines.

We now call Parents' Weekend "Fall Family Weekend." Whatever you call it, this was a great one, with warm, sunny weather and hundreds of very happy parents. I mean families. Of course someone torched the bonfire Friday night instead of Saturday, but why were we going to have one after Saturday dinner anyway? I know what you're thinking, and no I didn't do it....

Saturday's dinner featured music by a mix of talented faculty, a very talented parent (Paul Williams, who sang two tunes he wrote years ago: "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song" and "Rainbow Connection") and junior Garrett Thompson on drums. The faculty talent included Phil Goodnow (pictured below to the right) who belted out lead vocals on the Eagles' "Take It Easy," veteran singer/performer Tom Eslick, Eric Viandier on blues harp, and new music teacher Charlie Carpenter, who is a super piano player (we stuck him on base guitar, of course.)

That's gifts officer Keith Barrett '80 on guitar. Keith has a knack for thowing a bunch of people together and making a band with little rehearsal! He also does a fine Jimi Hendrix imitation, which left parents stunned and drained.

A welcoming sign.
