Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:15, when the first period of the day begins.
Attendance is not taken at meals, so--for some--the transition from a warm bed to classwork can be a little harsh.
At 10:10, the Maxwell Savage bell rings, and we all head up to the Meetinghouse for assembly.
This is a relatively egalitarian community that rarely separates students by class, so some of us aren't certain who is a junior and who is a senior, but this is Spirit Week, and classes are dressing by specific colors. Seniors, in blue, defeated a larger junior class in tug-of-war on sheer determination.
Non-academic "skills courses" meet with the same frequency as other courses. In metal sculpture, Andrew is fabricating a remarkable garden feature.
In the adjacent metal shop, Spencer spends free time working a chop saw with Everett Jones '57, cutting steel brackets for snow guns to be installed at the Blackwater.
Exacting measurements in woodshop:
As part of Spirit Week, many students are dressed as Ninjas. These Ninjas are in Honors Biology.
The thing about Ninjas, it has been explained to me, is that the best may choose to not dress as stereotypic Ninjas, thus heightening the stealth factor. Like, how many Ninjas do you see in this picture?
Afternoon activities commence at 3:15. The Woodsmen Team spends time up on Ragged Mountain, prospecting a site for an Adirondack hut for future camping at Mud Pond.
They settle on a level site with westerly views of this remote beaver pond.
Tomorrow is another day. Let us hope it is as beautiful as this one!
