Each year as the holidays approach, Alex Estin cranks up the Big Brother/Big Sister program, pairing Proctor students with kids at the elementary school across the street. The relationships that develop are often powerful and mutually beneficial. Introductions were made at a recent pizza-and-soda lunch in the AEMS cafeteria, and the faces say it all:

Many Proctor kids who volunteer their time to be with a needy tike are Andover day students, who witnessed the power of these relationships on their peers during their own years at the elementary school. While not all of the little brothers and sisters have extraordinary life struggles, many do. Each one has asked for a Big Brother/Sister. Here's the future Mayor of Andover, Kevin, enjoying a very special lunch:
