In 1997, we hired a consultant to conduct a feasibility study for a capital campaign. After months of research, he stunned the trustees by predicting that Proctor could raise something like fifteen to twenty million dollars. Conventional wisdom--if there is such a thing--says you can expect to double your previous campaign, which would have had us gunning for ten or twelve million. On Tuesday evening, at the lovely home of Matt and Ann Weir '85 above the Potomac in McLean, VA, we celebrated completion of the $32,000,000 Campaign for Proctor. This was a moment to honor those whose leadership and hard work have advanced this school to its current position. Here, trustee Development Committee Chair Leonard Johnson exchanges congratulations with Board Chair Carl Oppenheim P'97.
This campaign was Chaired by a veteran trustee whose only other connection to Proctor--until next fall, when he becomes a current parent--is that his dad served as a trustee from 1945-1986, Mark Cangiano. It has been said recently that no one loves Proctor as much as Mark, and he demonstrated that commitment by announcing the first leadership gift towards the next campaign (the renovation of Maxwell Savage Hall.) Here, Mark (right) greets current parent Jacob Scherr P'04.
Also honored were co-Chair Mary Loring, National Events Chair Katie Hildner '91, Board Chair Carl Oppenheim and Steve Wilkins. Each received a framed, personalized collage of images from campaign events. Mary's husband, Bill Loring, with Director of Development Jay Goulart:
