Columbus Day Observations
10/9/2006

First, an announcement for parents: Plan to enjoy the special Friday Evening Activites scheduled for this weekend. Arts and music studios will be open and busy. Click the link for a complete schedule.

Columbus Day is one of several obscure holidays that we do not observe. While most Americans get a day off because a delusional Italian with a fundamental misunderstanding of geography sailed from Spain and discovered the Bahamas, we proceed with business as usual. These students have identified Maple Leaf Viburnum.

There's a possibility that Christopher Columbus caught a glimpse of the Florida Keys, but, actually, there's no record that he ever saw any part of what is now the United States of America. By the time he succumbed to venereal disease in Segovia in 1506, this peculiar hero had completed four voyages to the Caribbean. He died firm in his belief that he had reached the East Indies. So, here in Andover, we proceed with Advanced Placement Biology:

And chemistry!

And algebra 2:

Holiday or not, it's a great day for lunch outside.

Cameron was pictured on the previous page careening down North Street, seated on a skateboard and poling with his crutches. Things have evolved since then....

Have a happy and safe Columbus Day.
