This is a picnic.
The first real gathering of the school year is the Day Parent & Student Picnic, hosted by PAPA (Parent Association) in a tent in front of the dining room. Here are some day students:
There is an old tradition at Proctor that the day picnic devolves into an ultimate frisbee contest.
Today's faculty meeting addresses the importance of outdoor education, with Hurricane Island icon Bob Rheault delivering the keynote address. Then the faculty packs up for 24 hours of hiking and camping on Proctor woodlands on the south face of Ragged Mountain. This experience will evoke different emotions from different teachers. Some are NOLS instructors; others have never slept outside before and are rumored to be packing Samsonite bags with wheels. I am a member of a camping group named the "slugs." I'm bringing my camera. We will be roughing it at The Bulkhead. If anyone needs me, please call my cell at 603-344-0924.
