Air Raid.
8/17/2001

Three of my more devoted readers—ungrateful despite a kind reference in the previous Corner--have now spanked me via e-mail for taking a week away from the desk. One comment suggested I "...slap a battery in that camera and get to work...." OK, I’ll teach you… Proctor today looks like we’re experiencing a prolonged air raid drill. This photo, which I call "Still Life With Summer Squash" captures the Faculty Room with no one in it:

Now that I’m started, I do have a comment of great substance. Does it strike anyone else as inconsistent with our environmental ethic that we slaughter mosquitoes by luring them with carbon dioxide gas (mimicking human exhalations) to a crematorium powered by propane? Where do we store this thing on Earth Day?

North Street during an air raid?

The art display cases are empty.
The vinyl siding on the Proctor Block is covered with webs that collect dirt.
