MLK Arts Symposium
1/20/2003

A few short years ago, when New Hampshire was the only state in the Union not observing Martin Luthur King Day, that issue provided some negative distraction. Now that the day is named for a single man, of course, our attentioin transcends civil rights. In 2003, MLK Day is like an arts symposium at Proctor. At assembly, the Diversity Group performed a well-prepared production of "Martin Said So" before the Chorus belted out "Give Me Freedom!"

After lunch, 27 workshops touched topics from immigration, adoption, affirmative action, Islam and Native American experience to the influence of rap. Here, students prepare posters for peace.

And below, senior Elizette leads an introduction to African dance.
