Naming Opportunities.
7/28/2000
New construction invites naming opportunities, as every corner is dedicated to those we love. That process was jump-started yesterday, when we were informed by the town that we had to name the "street" that goes behind Gannett to The Barn, past Maintenance, and up to North Street at Leonard Field.

We have to do it immediately. It's for 911 response. The Barn needs an address, I guess. To make matters worse, we have to name the lane that branches off Mystery Street right into the Maintenance area! Now!

Business Manager Donald Macdonald, recalling that the Maintenance area reminded architect Robert A.M. Stern of an Italian village, suggests we name the latter way "Via Del Machina." I don't know....
The whole area is changing because of the Meeting House construction. Above, Will Ames and Jim Dooley (front and third) meet with engineers in the boiler room to discuss improvements to our heating system. For example, the condensation pit is being enlarged for more efficient recycling of that by-product of the steam cycle. Fax your nominations for these street names to 603-735-5158 or e-mail chuck_will@proctornet.com now!
The old "Cary House" tennis courts are torn out.
Ro Burbank reflected on the original construction of these courts by a student work team around 1940. Before that, the school's tennis court was west of Cary House, in front of Gulick.
