Today, we take one last look at last week's Project Period, when the school worked in 33 small, focused groups. When students chose projects back in November, the write-up for the kayaking project began, "If you enjoy the challenge of getting up early, eating a big breakfast, pulling on cold, wet paddling clothes and feeling nervous about descending a whitewater river, then this could be a good project for you." Despite this, the project filled with boaters who made the long bus trip to the Natahala region of North Carolina.
The area's rivers offer challenges appropriate for all levels.
Meanwhile, the Ski/Mountaineering project ascended peaks--including Cardigan--with crampons.
Proctor's extensive stand of sugar maples on the northeast face of Blackwater Hill will be yielding sap for several more days, but last week, the sugaring project collected sweet stuff from the buckets hanging from the old maples scattered across campus.
Brooks stokes the evaporater.
And in the upper lobby of the Wilkins Meeting House, Matt lands a left on Scott in Kenpo/Self Defense.
