Project Sampler

Working in groups with a 6:1 student:faculty ratio, this week's projects allow us to explore highly focused activites with real depth. This is a time to drop our routine behaviors, transcend childish inhibitions and throw oneself into something new, something different. Education as art. Six boys and girls are thoroughly integrated in the lives of elementary school children. Emma and Ali join in a game of follow the leader.

Speaking of transcending inhibitions, if anyone thinks that real men don't make quilts, Anthony, Carlos, Jerome, Jack and Harold would be happy to explain their perspective.

Kenpo teaches highly efficient self-defense. It also appears to be fun.

In the biodiesel project, Tommy and Eben heat cooking oil and separate glycerine (which becomes soap) from potential fuel.

Down in the Red Building, (which, of course, is white) Buckman grinds down a section of frame destined to become an electric motorscooter.

Practice teaching at Andover Elementary School, Eli became a hero after a game of red light/green light, in which the winners got lifted over his head.
Armed with a seaming tool, Carlos would be happy to discuss quilting (and being able to watch tonight's NCAA basketball games.)
Emma with Taylor Methven during recess.
Irene and Vanessa fabricating biodiesel.
Josh listens to instructor Ross Young while subjugating a would-be attacker wearing stars & stripes pajama bottoms.
