Open Season
11/24/2002

It's open season now. We're on Break, of course. Then there's the fact that our Internet Service Provider has added functionality to the site that enables Corner readers to converse. This is something we asked for, of course. Well, behave yourself, or I'll pick up the frisbee and go home.

The last couple of weeks were tough on snow athletes, who spent afternoons jogging or playing alternative games like Ultimate Frisbee. This sport must not be confused with the free-flowing razzle-dazzle game played on college campuses (and on Carr Field by alumni throughout July and August). No, this is turf crowded with "players" standing around or wrestling, while others toss the disc here and there.

It's a dangerous activitiy, as participants collide frequently with peers facing the wrong direction...lost in thought or conversation about whatever.

Pre-courtship behavior is witnessed along the sidelines as the game deteriorates (right)-->.

It's all good. Meanwhile, those anticipating winter term abroad or on Mountain Classroom are involved in a mammoth Capture-the-Flag contest.

This is not the sport we've come to know and love.
Of course you can't take steps after a catch.
Adults naturally assume leadership roles. That navel belongs to physics teacher Brian Kellogg.
Brian sets the tone by sitting on Joe in the end zone.
Social order disintegrates.
Joe: "I've got one!"
These girls had been looking for Dan.
Whit and others are in jail, in a campus-wide version of Capture-the-Flag pitting the French against the Spanish.
