Watching Tiger Woods tear up Pebble Beach got Tim Norris, Bert Carvalho and me wondering if golf really is as easy as we remember it. There's nothing like Pebble Beach around here, so we visited the friendly confines of Den Brae golf course over in Sanbornton. It turns out golf really isn't that hard; in fact, we've never been better (or much worse.) You just can't hold back.

Our students would be disappointed if they witnessed what goes on here during the sultry summer months. Each week, another wave of scientists arrives to share their research. Nick-named "Gordoes," they should be the study of a scientific experiment themselves; each week's group has a distinct character. This week, we are hosting a clutch of randy bio-chemists. This morning's session, "Peptidoglycan Biosynthesis: Studies on the Transglycosylation Reaction" finished with thunderous applause from eager participants. One can only imagine what will happen this evening when someone entertains the crowd with "Human Yeast Signal Transduction." By that time, many will have stopped by The Den for relaxing libations.

They only count when you hit the ball.
Bert drives a worm-burner down the first fairway.
And speaking of yeast, can you believe this?
Asked to describe this week's group, bartenders Andrew Will '00 and James Beaudoin '96 agreed: "AWESOME!"
