Today's Corner comes from contributing reporter/football coach Ryan Flynn as he looks back on Saturday's big win over Pomfret. Here goes.
"After a difficult week of practice on account of inclement weather and lingering frustration from the poor showing versus Holderness, I would have expected our team to come out of the gate a little rusty. I was wrong. Pomfret had difficulty adjusting to the multiple defensive fronts and stunts we threw at them in the first half, which was part of Tom and Dave's game plan. When they finally adjusted by opting for quick counts, we were already ahead by fourteen points and our core group of seniors refused to allow their last game on Leonard Field to end in a loss.
Although our defense secured the victory, the early success of the offensive unit established the momentum that is so crucial to success in a high school game. We came out aggressive and loosened up the defense by completing a number of passes on the first drive. Chris really played a smart game as he made the correct reads and took what the defense was giving him all afternoon.
Pomfret switched to a four defensive back scheme to try and shut down our passing game so we began administering steady doses of Timmy Frazier and Ryan Paquette up the middle.
After cancelling the season two years ago Proctor football is 13-3 over the last two seasons."
