Sometimes it takes a village...
5/8/2001

This week's US News & World Report has an article on 20 boarding schools, and Proctor is included in the "Unique Schools" grouping. The piece on PA--entitled "Sometimes It Takes a Village"--includes some clumsy statements (can our atmosphere possibly be described as "stifling"?) but the overall tone is very positive. Here's the writer interviewing students on campus this winter:

Jon Siegel just celebrated his birthday at a pool hall. Remembered by alumni from 1978-1988 as Head of Industrial Arts Dept, Jon taught woodshop, machine shop, auto mechanics, blacksmithing, silversmithing, mechanical drawing and astronomy...designed schematic flow charts for campus walkways and the dishroom...went on to become a bass guitarist in a blues band, and is arguably the nation's most accomplished craftsman at wood-turning.

Here's Jon holding his self-crafted pool cue and a copy of Fine Woodworking magazine, in which he has authored an article on how to choose a lathe outside of Jillian's in Manchester.

Back on campus, Tony Gomez '04 runs the table at The Den Saturday night.

Jon enjoying one of his passions on his birthday.
