Over the past year, people at Proctor have talked a lot about service to the community. How do we provide students experiences through which they give back to the community, and feel joy rather than sacrifice? We know that Big Brother/Big Sister is as enriching and rewarding to our kids as it is to the tikes at the elementary school. Last night, new teacher/coach Mike Walsh introduced a new Community Service that proves that the magic is not limited to working with the young.

At 5:30 PM, he loaded more than a dozen nervous kids (several hockey players, a few advisees and a couple from the dorm) into a van and drove to Bingo Night at the New Hampshire Veterans' Home in Tilton. Our kids pitched in helping players with their cards, double checking their numbers, and providing a brief relationship of value.

For several, this was the first time in a nursing home. "I didn't want to do this," admitted one honest student, "but it was awesome. I'm looking forward to going again next month!"

There were stories to tell...
and games to be played...
friendships were made...
and plenty of laughs!
