The school year begins at different times for different people. New faculty begin their special orientation program this Thursday and Friday (!) and full-day faculty meetings run Monday and Tuesday, the 29th and 30th. This year's meetings will carry a theme of place, and locale, as we appreciate our precious surroundings and local environment.
Twenty percent of our student population are day students. They--and their families--are a great strength within the community, and we welcome them to a special day student & family picnic Tuesday evening outside the dining hall. This is an opportunity for introductions and words from Parent Association leadership, as well as administrators and teachers whose roles involve day student life.
New students register on the morning of Tuesday, September 6, while aspiring varsity athletes return to start fall sports camps. Here we see eager day student greeters welcoming new families and providing guidance to dormitories, Business Office, bookstore, etc.
New students join Orientation groups (eight students, two teachers typically) after a picnic lunch, and spend the evening preparing backpacks and equipment for a five-day wilderness hike and camping adventure in the White Mountains.
Experience tells us that friendships forged during these first days may be the strongest in a student's life.
Sports camps run while new students are on Wilderness Orientation
Back from the woods on Sunday evening, new students have a day of on-campus orientation Monday, while returning students check in by 5:30 PM. All classes meet Tuesday, September 13, and the regular schedule (whatever that means!) starts Wednesday.
Another year is under way!
