Today's page contrasts images from Tuesday. Of course, we could contrast mathematics as it was taught years ago with the conceptual, real-world application offered by Lee today (here in precalculus):
And here in algebra 1:
Boat building has been offered at Proctor since the 1930s, and if you enter "boat building" in the search window at right, you'll find that the topic has received much attention on these pages in recent years. It is very rare for a student to tackle a project as complex as a 12-foot catboat, because it should take two full years of work, but John Wright is a young man of uncommon focus and determination, and he's built one in the past nine months. Today, a few buddies helped him step the mast outside the boatshop:
Some adjustments were needed to the foot of the mast, so they pulled it out, hauled the boat over to Proctor Pond, launched it, and piled in for a maiden voyage. This was a moment out of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Satisfied with a brief circumnavigation of the pond, they approached the beach...Westy on tiller/paddle, Jake luffing his make-shift spinnaker, Matt providing ballast and the intrepid builder and captain pointing the way:
