Tilton was the only team to beat Proctor varsity football last year, so Saturday's rematch was a spirited grudge match.
Taking a term off from Harvard to coach our offensive line, Toby Latiolais crafted this insight: "We played like dog doo in the first half." Sticking with an efficient metaphor, he clarified, "We were as soft as puppy poo." Down 3-0, the Hornets took the lead on a long, second quarter ramble off a busted play by quarterback Chris Corsiglia:
In the second half the offense settled down as Corsiglia flared short passes to Ryan Paquette and John Simmermeyer on a long drive to paydirt. Throughout the game, the team in green got great plays from newcomer Evan Meekins and PA veteran Chek Wingo. Needing a first down to keep the ball with just seconds to go, Chek broke free and sprinted 65 yards to ice it.
"We won ugly, which is good," observed Ryan Flynn, who teaches English when he's not coaching the passing team. The final score? Hmmmm......we don't have a scoreboard, but we scored three TDs to Tilton's one....no one converted an extra point....they had an early fieldgoal....18-9? Does that work?
